Anotace knihy

The objective of the study was to examine the influence of various additives, moisture levels and fermentation periods on nutritive value of leguminous and non-leguminous fodders & their silages and their influence on feed intake, digestion kinetics, nutrient digestibility, milk yield and its composition in lactating Nili-Ravi buffaloes. The hypothesis was that silages of various fodders could successfully replace the conventional fodders in lactating buffalo diets. The study was conducted in three phases. In the first phase silage characteristics were studies through laboratory scale silos. In the second phase, the comparative in situ digestion kinetics of fodders and their respectve silages were studied. While, in the third phase, comparative efficiency of utilization of fodders and the silages were examined in lactating Nili-Ravi buffaloes. After evaluation of results it was concluded that silage making of surplus fodders during their abundant growth period will not only help overcome the irregular fodder supply pattern, but will also enhance fodder yield of multicut fodder crops by increasing their number of cuts.
