Anotace knihy
This is the first research work ever conducted to determine the effects of self-concept on academic performance of Junior High School form three students in Elmina township in the Central region of the Republic of Ghana. The study examined among other things how each construct (religious, physical, self-esteem, social, economic academic or educational self-concepts) considered in the work influnce academic performance. The best predictor among these constructs for academic performance was also looked at. the major results established by the study indicate that constructs such as physical, self-esteem and academic self-concepts as against the others, significantly influenced academic performance of students. Besides, the study revealed that the best predictor and for that matter the strongest and unique contributor that explains the variance of academic performance was academic or educational orientation self-concept. in effect, the study recommends that counsellors, researchers, teachers, parents and indeed all stakeholders read this book for more innovative and pragmatic ideas for educational counselling sessions in both our schools and counselling centres.
