Anotace knihy

When Yield Isn't Return examines the 2026 pressure on the Indian rupee through the interaction of exchange rates, sovereign yields, global dollar conditions, oil prices, foreign portfolio flows, RBI intervention and India's external buffers. At its core is a practical investment question: what happens to the apparent yield advantage of Indian government securities when the investor measures returns in U.S. dollars? The book combines macro-financial analysis with an empirical monthly model using USD/INR, Indian and U.S. 10-year yields, Brent crude and the broad U.S. dollar index. The analysis also examines foreign-investor G-Sec economics, including a carry-only FX break-even calculation, while distinguishing carry from total return and acknowledging duration, hedging and transaction-cost considerations. A further section explores whether the global AI investment cycle could influence international capital allocation and contribute to changing portfolio flows. This mechanism is presented as a testable hypothesis rather than a causal conclusion. The result is an evidence-based examination of why nominal yield differentials alone may provide an incomplete picture of international investment returns-and how currency risk and global capital conditions can reshape the economics of emerging-market fixed income.
