Anotace knihy

This work looks at how the perception of space changes over time, especially in late antiquity and Byzantine eras. It takes "space" to mean both the physical aspect of the settlement of people, and the conceptions that underlie the choice of a particular type of settlement, the economic sistuation which makes it possible and the ideological framework which justifies it. In late antiquity the idea of space is covered through looking at the city, however through the years the perception of space changes in relation with the development of a new religious architecture. The book also tries to shed some light on this evolution.
