This book has a narrow purpose.
It will not help you quit on Friday and start earning more by the following Thursday. It contains no list of professions that will "be in demand five years from now" - such lists are regularly wrong, and building a decision on one is a poor bet. And it does not promise that in six months you will be working four hours a week from a beach.
It is about something else: the six to eighteen months of parallel movement while you still have a full-time job, a salary, and everything that comes with it. About how, under those conditions, to choose a direction, find time for it, test it on real people, and determine - from data rather than from mood - whether it is worth going further.
If you are reading this, you have probably already spent a number of evenings looking for an answer. Possibly quite a few. And you may have noticed something odd: the more you searched, the less clear it became where to begin. The first chapter explains why that happens, and it has nothing to do with laziness.
Every chapter ends with one specific action. Not a list of ideas to consider, but an action with a deadline - today, or within the next few days. By the end of the book you should be left not with inspiration but with a dozen completed documents: a list of directions, a map of your week's energy, a message you actually sent, a tracking table, a financial calculation. Inspiration tends to run out by Wednesday. Documents do not.
