Although often considered an esoteric figure occupying the dark fringes of twentieth-century thought, Georges Bataille was a pivotal precursor to a generation of poststructuralist and postmodern thinkers -- including Baudrillard, Derrida, Foucault, Lacan, and Lyotard.
