Anotace knihy

There has been a sustained and growing interest in the multiple ways in which science and technology education might more directly respond to pressing social and environmental agendas. Previous texts have explored the pedagogical implications of issues-based , decision-based , knowledge-based and context-based approaches. Activist Science and Technology Education extends this work and, with empirical examples, frames possibilities and limitations of activism as a generative socio-political referent point for science and technology education theorising. §In the first section, authors build an argument for an activist approach and map out the conceptual and pedagogical territory. The chapters in the second section offer developments at the frontier of research and practice, focusing on indentified themes of concern. These themes include Consumerism and Globalisation, Technological Advancements, Disruptive Environments, and Bioethical Developments. The concluding chapter, written by the editors, offers reflections on extant work and opportunities and possibilities for future research and practice.
