Schiff-base are organic compounds with the general formula RR C=NR , where R and R represent hydrogen, an alkyl or an aryl and R is an alkyl or aryl; in the latter case, Schiff bases are also called anils. Chalcones are the compounds where aromatic substituent are introduced into the terminal position of the system -CH=CH-CO. Thus chalcones are phenyl styryl ketones containing reactive keto-ethylenic group -CO-CH=CH-.
