The recent resurgence of radical right-wing parties in Western Europe has been the cause of considerable angst amongst academics and politicians alike. While European states have become increasingly politically and economically interdependent, it appears there is a considerable backlash against this trend. Many citizens of European Union member states feel that their livelihoods are in jeopardy as a result of many of the EU policies, such as those that encourage free trade or relax guest worker laws. In addition, others feel uneasy about the increasing levels of racial or ethnic diversity in what used to be relatively homogenous countries. In this thesis, I examine four countries where a relatively large number of citizens have turned to far-right parties to express their frustration with the staus quo. I examine how far-right voters differ cross-nationally, and how they differ from other voters in their respective countries.
