Anotace knihy

This title presents a comprehensive and superbly illustrated exploration of 40 years of NYC's vibrant community art. For more than 40 years, the community murals of New York City have been used as a means to beautify, educate, protest, celebrate, and motivate local residents and communities. Collaborations between artists and neighbourhood groups, these painted walls reflect the social, cultural, and political climate of their times. The result of years of research and hundreds of interviews, "On the Wall" is a superbly illustrated volume that shines a light on murals that were 'lost' to history or unknown outside their immediate surroundings. Covering the period from 1968 to 2007, this book not only highlights significant murals and introduces the artists and sponsors that created them, but also reveals the many fascinating stories behind them.
