Anotace knihy

This is the heartwarming story of Polish immigrants who band together

in their closeknit Philadelphia neighborhood to navigate the most dire

challenges of the early twentieth century. Prohibition in the tumultuous

twenties prompts them to organize an underground network for the

illegal production of alcohol, which provides them financial stability.

When the Volstead Act is repealed, the dark days of the depression

re-ignite the struggle for survival they faced when they first chose to

emigrate to America for a better quality of life. Their unwavering

persistence and determination enable them to grapple with the odds

against them, with the conviction that the ends justify the means.

and keep their familes' hopes alive.
