Anotace knihy

Stability is a very important property of mathematical models simulating physical processes which provides an adequate description of the process. Starting from the classical notion of the well-posedness in the Hadamard sense, this notion was adapted to different areas of research and at present is understood, depending on the physical problem under consideration, as the Lyapunov stability of stationary solutions, stability of specified initial data, stability of averaged models, etc.§The stability property is of great interest for researchers in many fields such as mathematical analysis, theory of partial differential equations, optimal control, numerical analysis, fluid mechanics, etc. etc. The variety of recent results, surveys, methods and approaches to different models presented by leading world-known mathematicians, makes both volumes devoted to the stability and instability of mathematical models in fluid mechanics very attractive for provisional buyers/readers working in the above mentioned and related areas. This is a unique collection of papers, all written by leading specialists, that presents the most recent results and advances in stability theory as it relates to fluid flows. The stability property is of great interest for researchers in many fields, including mathematical analysis, theory of partial differential equations, optimal control, numerical analysis, and fluid mechanics. This text will be essential reading for many researchers working in these fields.Instability in Models Connected with Fluid Flows II presents chapters from world renowned specialists. The stability of mathematical models simulating physical processes is discussed in topics on control theory, first order linear and nonlinear equations, water waves, free boundary problems, large time asymptotics of solutions, stochastic equations, Euler equations, Navier-Stokes equations, and other PDEs of fluid mechanics.§Fields covered include: the free surface Euler (or water-wave) equations, the Cauchy problem for transport equations, irreducible Chapman--Enskog projections and Navier-Stokes approximations, randomly forced PDEs, stability of equilibrium figures of uniformly rotating viscous incompressible liquid, Navier-Stokes equations in cylindrical domains, Navier-Stokes-Poisson flows in a vacuum.§Contributors include: David Lannes (France); Evgenii Panov (Russia); Evgenii Radkevich (Russia); Armen Shirikyan (France); Vsevolod Solonnikov (Italy-Russia); Sergey Zelik (UK); Alexander Zlotnik (Russia)
