Anotace knihy
For many years, the role of the African American soldier in World War II has been confined to group histories of noted units such as the 'Buffalo Soldiers'. For the first time, this volume looks at the role of the individuals in the so-called "Coloured Battalions". Based, in part, on nearly 150 letters written by Sergeant Inman Perkins, "Inman's War" details not only the prejudices faced every day by those who served in these battalions, but also his day-to-day life, and the thoughts of a man prepared to die for his beliefs and his country - a country that at the time barely considered him a citizen. This is an important examination of a period in history that has long been left untouched by historians.
