UEFA is an organizational and regulatory body for European football whose rules sometimes result in a discontent of the elite group of clubs that therefore threaten to break away from its organisational structures and form an alternative league. This book builds up on the novel interpretation of EU sports law, the specificities of the football industry and European football governance to examine the legality of the UEFA restrictions on participation in and formation of alternative leagues in the light of the applicable EU law. Conversely, it also tests the largely neglected issue of the legality of forming a breakaway league by the European elite football clubs.
