Isaac Newton's Mathematical Principles (1687) is one of the most important science classics. With it, Newton despatched received physics and established the foundation for the classical mechanic and dynamics which we today refer to as Newtonian physics. This volume presents an authoritative new German translation of the Principia. The widely divergent texts of the first, second and third editions are reproduced, together with Newton's hand-written addenda and his commentary on a number of important passages. Consideration is also given to translation of contemporary reviews of the Principia, including those by such important writers as John Locke and Christian Wolff. With its meticulous editing and copious notes, this new German translation enables the reader to follow the genesis of the Principia and provides a valuable guide to the study of this famous work.
