With the advances of sensing technology, sensors§today are capable of sensing, communicating,§self-scheduling, data processing, and moving from one§place to another. Sensors have become an important§part of our daily life. For example, sensors are used§to secure important infrastructure, monitor the§traffic, and protect our borders. However, wireless§networks that can be formed from such sensors still§face many challenges due to sensor limitations in§energy, memory, computation power, and sensing§reliability. In addition, hot spots in the monitored§field may require sensors with special§characteristics. Moreover, the required monitoring§time may vary from one application to another;§keeping this network alive during the monitoring time§poses another challenge.§In this book, we address the deployment of mobile§heterogeneous sensors in fields with hot spots for a§specific period of time. The book looks into the§realistic sensor deployment parameters and formally§defines the deployment problems. Moreover, it§explores some of the current solutions to the problem.
