Anotace knihy

This book demonstrates how the integration of control, communication, informatics and several other academic disciplines can be brought together for the effective control of distributed systems. It shows how, because a distributed control system is an interconnection of two or more subsystems, the local and partial state information provided by the individual subsystems must be incorporated to meet the global control objectives of the whole system. The forms of cooperation necessary to achieve this end are described. Control architectures are considered in order of increasing degree of cooperation of local controllers: fully distributed or decentralized control, control with communication between controllers, coordination control and control of multilevel. Examples and case studies introduced in the first part of the text and treated throughout the book include control of underwater vehicles, automated guided vehicles on a container terminal, control of a printer as a complex machine and control of an electric power system. Concepts, results and algorithms are based on control theory, communication, informatics and their integration. A feature of the book are the short no-more-than-eight-page chapters and their essay-like character with suggestions for further research and for further reading.§§The collected ideas of the specialists writing in Coordination Control of Distributed Systems will be instructive for graduate students working with multi-part control systems.
