The technological progress in the fields of robotics, perception, artificial intelligence, computational power, mechatronics, and sensor systems allows for the first time the design and construction of truly intelligent systems that are able of reasoning, understanding, and learning through interaction with the physical and social environment. Truly intelligent cognitive systems will be able to operate in an autonomous way, to naturally interact with the world and humans.
