Anotace knihy

This book is the outcome of the International Conference on "Climate Change Challenge (3C): Exploring Potential Adaptation Strategies for Bio-resource Conservation and Livelihood Development" held at ISEC from 20-21 May 2015. It is an interdisciplinary natural and social sciences book, with original contributions by researchers working in the field of climate change and social-economic and ecological development. The greatest regional and global challenge confronting humanity, today and in the future, is global-warming-driven climate change. Addressing 3C requires policy formulation, research, technology-transfer and diffusion, as well as financing and enhancing the adaptive capacity of the poor at the local, national and regional levels. The UNFCCCs COP stated that particularly in developing countries, those that depend on the land for their livelihood are either the most victimized or most vulnerable in today's world, as in most of the cases their activities are governed by climate. Understanding future vulnerabilities and exploring possible responses requires a sustained study of correlated human and natural systems, using scenario-building models. The challenge is to integrate the huge number of parameters interacting in and across social, economic, and cultural sub-systems that are not normally included holistically in most approaches. There is a need not only for developing strategies at regional or national level, which is a largely a top-down approach, but more importantly, to develop a bottom-up approach to address 3C, sustainable land-use and the correlated socio-ecological development. Scientific communities worldwide are making efforts at the global, regional, national and local levels to address the post 2015 agenda 3C through mitigation and adaptation strategies. Therefore, this book invites researchers to work on the diverse aspects of 3C and socio-ecological development so as to arrive at potentially beneficial adaptation strategies.§
