This volume explores emergent subjectivities of Indian Muslim youth, as they unfold within a rapidly globalizing Indian economy and society saturated with communication technologies of satellite television, mobile telephones, Internet, W.2 applications, and social networking platforms such as Facebook. It is an ethnographic investigation into the way revolutionary changes in communication technologies, affecting mediaas reach and content, as well as, audienceas access to and their modes of engagement with media within contexts of neoliberal globalization, are inflecting the self-consciousness and identity of minority Muslim youth population. The book brings new perspectives to bear on neoliberal mediated globalization by analysing the way local and global processes are interpolated in the experiences of underprivileged populations, which have been largely overlooked in postcolonial scholarship on globalization, media, and identity. In this way, it addresses important gaps in postcolonial media studies and cultural studies, which have keenly investigated seismic shifts in Indian society in the wake of economic liberalization and revolutionary changes in media and communication technologies, but only from the perspective of the dominant and hegemonic populations.
