88% of organisations now use AI. Roughly 6% are capturing real value from it. This book is about the difference.
Adoption was the easy part. McKinsey's 2025 State of AI survey records artificial intelligence in use at 88% of organisations, with generative AI climbing from 33% to 79% in two years - one of the fastest enterprise-technology curves on record. Yet only about 6% report material impact at the bottom line. The constraint is no longer access to the tool. It is the quality of the instruction given to it.
AI Tools, Techniques & Tricks is the method that closes that gap. At its centre sits the 6-Protocol Format, a six-stage structure developed from the author's IA-SEA research programme and applied consistently across all fifteen chapters:
(i)Role - who the model is to be.
(ii)Context - what it must know before it answers.
(iii)Commands and Tasks - precisely what it must do.
(iv)Pitfalls - the errors it must not make.
(v)Examples and Format - the shape the output must take.
(vi)Clarifying Question - the step nearly everyone omits, and the one that most improves the result.
INSIDE THE BOOK
(i)Part I - Foundations: artificial intelligence, prompts and prompt engineering in plain language, without mathematics or jargon.
(ii)Part II - The Toolkit: how to select among current platforms for business, organisational and research work, and what each is genuinely good at.
(iii)Part III - Techniques: the craft itself, including the full 6-Protocol Format, iteration and the evaluation of output quality.
(iv)Part IV - Tricks: advanced moves, among them Prompt Stacking and Reverse Prompt Engineering.
(v)Part V - From Skill to System: building prompt libraries, establishing governance and ethics, and measuring return on investment.
(vi)Four appendices: more than one hundred ready-to-use prompts for business, organisations and research, plus a one-page cheat sheet.
(vii)A twenty-four-entry glossary defining every technical term used.
WHY PROMPT QUALITY PAYS
The evidence is measurable, not anecdotal. In a controlled study of professional writing tasks published in Science, Noy and Zhang found that structured AI assistance cut completion time by approximately 40% and raised assessed quality by roughly 18%, with the largest gains accruing to weaker performers. McKinsey values the long-run annual potential of generative AI at US$2.6-4.4 trillion across sixty-three use cases. Demand has followed: prompt-engineering job postings rose by an estimated 250% between 2024 and 2026.
WHO IT IS FOR
Founders, managers, analysts, consultants, administrators, lecturers and graduate researchers who must produce work with AI and have had no formal training in it. No coding is required. Nothing here assumes a technical background.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Etemi Joshua Garba, PhD, is a Full Professor of Computer Science and pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Computing at Modibbo Adama University, Yola. He writes from two decades of research and supervision in intelligent systems, and from the practical position of teaching working professionals to use these tools well.
Every technique in this book is shown failing before it is shown succeeding, so that the difference is seen rather than asserted. The prompts are written to be copied, adapted and deployed the same day.
The tool is already on your desk. This book teaches the method.
