In the Colombian region of Putumayo, the Inga and Camëntsá indigenous communities of the Sibundoy Valley are unique cultures relying on agroforestry systems for their food security and livelihoods. The home garden, as the traditional agroforestry system of Camëntsá and Inga, plays an essential role in the development of the communities' culture: language, handicrafts, myths, believes, music, carnival, dance, medicine, and education. Nevertheless, the home gardens are shrinking in area and numbers to gradually disappearing. Under the global change, these indigenous cultures, their associated biodiversity and precious knowledge are threatened. Documenting and valuing their knowledge of biodiversity management and increasing their incomes could help mitigate this enormous cultural and biodiversity loss. Therefore, this study documents indigenous Camëntsá and Inga knowledge focusing on the relevance of the indigenous agroforestry systems to provide their ecosystem services and estimate their monetary value to illustrate its economic importance.
