Anotace knihy

'Spiritual Progress' is an extraordinary anthology that encapsulates the essence of deep spiritual inquiry from the French school of Quietism. The collected works of Francois Fenelon, Madame Guyon, and Pere La Combe weave through various facets of Christian mysticism, emphasizing quietude and the soul's inherent quest for God. The collection stands out for its variety of literary styles-from introspective prose to evocative poetry-each serving to elevate the reader's spiritual consciousness. The historical complexities of 17th-century religious thoughts are mirrored in these pieces, providing a resonant background for themes of divine love and inner silence. The authors, key figures in the Quietist movement, contribute richly diverse perspectives shaped by their unique theological and personal experiences. Fenelon, a celebrated archbishop, Guyon, a controversial mystic, and La Combe, a scholarly priest, collectively faced significant resistance and censure. Their works in this anthology not only reflect their spiritual and intellectual rigor but also map the broader dynamics of Christian mysticism and its fraught relationship with institutional religious power. For those interested in the confluence of theology, history, and literature, 'Spiritual Progress' offers a seminal exploration into the quietist dimensions of faith. This anthology is not merely a collection of writings; it is an invitation to traverse the profound terrains of spiritual self-discovery alongside masters of mystical thought. Scholars and lay readers alike will find in these pages a space for meaningful dialogue and an enriching educational resource, fostering both personal growth and a deeper appreciation of a pivotal religious era.
