This volume discusses pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) and adult stem cells (ASCs), focusing on recent advances in the research and towards clinical applications including as therapy for injury and disease. These are some of the most timely and most important topics currently being addressed in this field. The volume is arranged in two sections, covering PSCs and ASCs. The section on PSCs includes information on banking iPSCs, the use of stem cells for drug screening, and genome editing in PSCs. The potential use of PSCs in kidney and cardiac diseases as well as their application in cancer is also discussed in this section. The recent progress in the differentiation of PSCs into functional pancreatic _ cells in vitro will be also covered. The section on ASCs describes the current knowledge on banking of umbilical cord stem cells and on the use of multipotential stromal cells (MSC's) for bone repair and cartilage regeneration as well as their cellular interactions during fracture repair stages. The recent progress in lung stem cell research will be discussed in this volume. All of the chapters are contributed by world-renowned scientists and experts in the field of PSCs and ASCs.
