Telling the story of the world's oldest evening newspaper, the (London) "Evening Standard", this book commences in in the time of Oliver Cromwell and traces the history of the Baldwin family, Protestant publishers, whose successors launched "The Standard" in 1827. Later owners of the paper were to include C. Arthur Pearson (founder of the "Daily Express", Lord Beaverbrook and now Lord Rothermere. The book tells tales of the paper's scoops, famous journalists, cartoonists and political involvements up to the present day.
