Anotace knihy

The language of nursing is becoming increasingly important in professional nursing practice. While it is currently mostly discussed in connection with the immigration of skilled workers, there is still a lack of empirical findings on intraprofessional communication against the backdrop of the professionalisation of nursing. This research gap is filled by the present study. It is based on a qualitative analysis of 26 handover discussions in five clinics, evaluated using vocabulary, discourse and structured content analysis. The results show that nursing expertise often remains unrecognisable in language. From this, the author concludes that the establishment of a professional nursing language is crucial in order to make nursing actions, decisions and competencies visible. She calls for targeted language training for nurses in training and practice in order to improve the quality of care and strengthen the professional standards of nursing.
