Metal Oxide-based nanofibers and their applications provides an in-depth overview of the developments in the synthesis, characterization of their unique properties, and applications achieved by the scientific leaders in the area. The book is divided into three main sections that cover the synthesis and its related critical aspects, and applications in topical areas. The first section deals with the theoretical and experimental aspects of the synthesis and methodologies to control microstructure, composition and shape of the nanofibrous metal oxides. This includes electrospinning and other methods to synthesize the fibers as well as chemical methods and new techniques to obtain advanced nanostructured metal oxide nanofibers. Non-electrospinning processing methods are also described. Safety aspects associated with fabrication and handling of nanofibers are addressed. The second and third sections review the applications of metal oxide nanofibers in diverse technologies, with special focus on the relation between the structural, morphological and compositional features of the nanofibers with the performances in specific fields of applications. In the second section, applications of metal oxide nanofibers in the fields of sensing (biosensing, gas sensing) while the third section considers biomedical and cleaning technologies.
