Maxillary sinus pneumatization is a natural physiological process that takes place in all paranasal sinuses during growth, aimed at increasing their volume, and this process is notably accelerated following tooth extraction.Sinus floor elevation, commonly referred to as sinus lift, is a surgical technique employed to augment vertical bone height, thereby addressing the anatomical deficiencies in the posterior maxilla. The initial description of maxillary sinus floor elevation was provided by Tatum during an Alabama implant conference in 1976. Tatum's lateral antrostomy technique has become the most widely utilized sinus lift procedure, while a more conservative crestal approach was introduced by Summers in 1994. Over the years, numerous modifications to both the lateral antrostomy and Summers' osteotomy have been developed, resulting in minimally invasive and less traumatic techniques. These advancements also facilitate the use of both autogenous and synthetic bone substitutes.
