Anotace knihy

Before the world knew Beethoven, he was simply Ludwig, a boy everyone seemed determined to compare with Mozart.

Born in Bonn in 1770, Ludwig van Beethoven grew up surrounded by music. His father recognized his talent early and hoped his son might become the next famous child prodigy, just like Wolfgang Mozart. Ludwig practiced for hours, performed in public as a child, studied the music of Bach, and eventually learned from Joseph Haydn. But as he grew older, something became increasingly clear: Ludwig was not going to become another Mozart. He was becoming Beethoven.

Ludwig: The Boy Who Wasn't Mozart tells the true story of a talented, stubborn, passionate child who gradually discovered his own musical voice.

Readers follow Ludwig from his demanding childhood in Bonn to his new life in Vienna, where his extraordinary improvisations at the piano began attracting attention. They discover how teachers such as Christian Gottlob Neefe encouraged his talent, how Bach's music shaped his education, and how Beethoven eventually became known not as someone who might imitate another great composer, but as an extraordinary musician in his own right.

The story also introduces one of the greatest challenges of Beethoven's life: his progressive hearing loss. Although sound gradually disappeared from his outside world, Ludwig continued composing symphonies, concertos, sonatas, and string quartets, creating music unlike anything audiences had heard before.

Young readers are invited to listen along to Beethoven's music, including the Moonlight Sonata, Symphony No. 5, Ode to Joy, and his Violin Concerto, helping them connect the boy in the story with the music that continues to be heard around the world.

Written and illustrated by Elizabeth A. Faidley, this sixth book in the Little Composer Books series is a story about music, perseverance, individuality, and discovering that becoming yourself can be far more important than becoming someone everyone already knows
