Anotace knihy

A gifted figure painter, Joseph Henry Sharp was renowned for his portrayals of Native Americans, ranging from the Indians of the Great Plains to the Pueblos of New Mexico. Sharp was celebrated for his emphasis on realism and accuracy; indeed, the artist distinguished the members of one tribe from another by carefully noting differences in physiognomy, costume and artifacts. As a result, Sharp's work was admired by collectors and anthropologists alike.
Joseph Henry Sharp is recognized today as one of American art history's most beloved painters of Native Americans and the American West with an oeuvre spanning more than six decades. He is also widely considered the spiritual father of the Taos Art Colony, a group that included Ernest Blumenschein, Bert Geer Phillips, Eanger Irving Couse and other well-known Western painters.
The present work showcases a fine array of new photographic images of paintings by Sharp utilizing the Kvamme process of digital enhancement.
