The proposed book addresses various effects of the immune system on the development and sometimes treatment of various psychiatric disorders, most commonly schizophrenia and depression. The last few years have seen tremendous progress in psychoneuroimmunological research and many results have never been presented in such a comprehensive way before. Contributions will include discussions of the role of in utero immune challenges on the development of schizophrenia, the role of infections and autoimmune disorders in the development of depression, the influence of immune responses in other disorders such as Tourette's, Alzheimer's, and OCD, the connections between mental and physical pain as well as between anti-inflammatory and antipsychotic drugs.
