Meet Peanut, a little Red-Eared Slider turtle whose life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters a piece of discarded plastic near a stream. With assistance from the Saint Louis Zoo, the dangerous plastic ring is carefully removed, giving Peanut a chance to receive the care she desperately needs. Her journey then continues at the Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center, where she is nurtured back to health, given space to exercise and swim, and becomes an inspiration to children and visitors.

 

But Peanut's story is about more than one turtle. Her experience opens the door to an important lesson about how litter can affect turtles, birds, fish, and other wildlife.
