There was a time, not so long ago, when the role of the goalkeeper was considered less important than that of other players on the team.

Fortunately, today the situation has changed significantly. Modern soccer places every player on an equal footing, regardless of their position.

Nevertheless, according to many experts, the goalkeeper has a special place within the team, as he alone can make or break the team, depending on the quality of his performance.

In this chapter, we present the training of technical basics and fundamental tactical skills for goalkeeper training.

At the end of the chapter, we provide an example of training for high-level goalkeepers as well as exercises for young goalkeepers.

While in practice, goalkeepers should receive individual training, with a specialized coach if possible, they should also participate in training sessions with the entire team in order to be exposed to real game situations.
