Contact: It is the year 2505. Aya has always dreamed of exploring space, despite her parent's opposition. However, she persists, and is reluctantly allowed to fulfil her dream. As a trainee in the Space Corps, she meets four other young people, who also chase after a similar dream, and she instantly bonds with them. They undertake a training mission, in order to learn the basics of space travel. During this short trip to Mars, Aya learns more about her companion's often widely differing personalities. However, Aya is plagued with guilt, because, thanks to the ability of Relativity to stretch Time, her period away from Earth becomes vasty multiplied for those remaining, and she knows that her parents will age considerably faster than she will, especially if she continues with her space career.
The next mission she undertakes will take a lot longer to complete. Aboard a much larger spaceship, Aya and her companions investigate an unexplored section of the galaxy, but encounter an unforeseen incident. The engines of the spaceship stop functioning for some inexplicable reason, and refuse to restart. On top of this disaster, a totally expected anomaly appears. It's something which upends everything believed to be possible, and it will change all of their lives in an irrevocable manner.

Differences: After returning to Earth after their mission, Aya, Dime Fran, Sinc and Jer, along with their new alien friend, Chance, endeavor to settle into their accustomed pathways in the city. Chance of course, has been shunted aside, and politely placed before an Enquiry Commission, who are eager to question him about his non-human lifestyle. Jer accompanies Chance, trying to instill a degree of companionship into his new friend.
Meanwhile, to the shock of everyone, Dime has occasionally constructed florid and exaggerated overtures to Fran. Is this the beginnings of an unprecedented relationship? If so, then it would shake the very foundations of everything the group had always believed.
Everyone volunteers for the next Space Mission, but not without a level of misgivings. For one thing, the mission will be a long one, and this means that there will be no guarantee that any of their families being alive when they return. Plus, one of the reasons for the trip is to finish building and testing Chance's transporter machine. And the major question in everyone's mind is 'Will it work?', along with 'And if goes wrong, then where will we end up?'
The test of the transporter machine takes place and everything appears to be normal. But then small differences are noted. Various items disappear, and new ones mysteriously appear. Something is definitely wrong with the surroundings. And all of the indicators point towards Chance's machine.
