In 1966, 25-year-old John Mason left the comforts of home to serve in the Vietnam War. He was a door gunner on a helicopter which was a dangerous job. Over ten percent of casualties in Vietnam were helicopter crew members. Most were door gunners who protected the helicopter, its crew and whatever they were transporting.
