There are many ties and ropes tethering that poverty to a person, a bloodline, a people, or nation. This book adds new depth to Galatians 3:13, Cursed is everyone that hangs on a tree. It explores the shame of that act, as well as the motivations of those who did it --, usually a mob. Wasn't there a mob present at Jesus' sentencing? Didn't many come to spectate?
