Anotace knihy
Color image segmentation refers to partitioning an image into different regions that are homogeneous or "similar" in some image characteristics. It is an essential aspect of human visual perception. Image segmentation has taken a vital role in numerous applications, including, object recognition, multimedia databases, color image and video transmission over the Internet, process control, digital broadcasting, interactive TV, video-on-demand, computer-based training, distance education, event detection, video-conferencing and tele-medicine and with the development of the hardware and communications infrastructure, to support visual applications. The field has become a principal area of research not only in electrical engineering but also in other academic disciplines such as computer science, agriculture, geography, medical imaging, criminal justice, and remote sensing. This book describes the basic concept of segmentation, state of art approaches and also presents three new procedures capable of generating coherent segmentation in regard to real regions of homogeneous color and texture in a given image, while computing the number of segments automatically and fully unsupervised.
