Become a Master In the Ring!

The revised edition of this boxing guidebook, prepared by leading coaches and physical educators, offers a comprehensive resource for trainers, teachers, students, and enthusiasts looking to improve their skills in the sport.

During World War II, the U.S. Naval Institute created this regimen after finding the sport of boxing uniquely suited to developing essential qualities such as quick reactions, cool judgment, coordination, and grit; skills invaluable not only in combat but also in countless other sports and physical activities.

Complete with hundreds of illustrations, Boxing covers a wide range of topics and techniques and provides a holistic approach to boxing development. Some key areas covered include:

• Positioning and movement: Learning proper footwork and body positioning to optimize offensive and defensive strategies.
• Physiological and psychological conditioning: Understanding the physical and mental aspects of boxing training, including stamina, endurance, and mindset.
• Leading with the right arm: Mastering techniques and strategies for using the dominant hand effectively in boxing exchanges.
• Leading with the left arm: Exploring techniques and tactics for effective use of the left , the non-dominant hand for most boxers.
• Feinting, drawing, and clinching: Understanding the art of deception, luring opponents into vulnerable positions, and utilizing clinches to control the fight.
• Ring strategy: Developing an understanding of various strategies and tactics employed in boxing matches, including offensive and defensive maneuvers.
• Lesson plans and drills: Providing structured training plans and exercises to enhance specific boxing skills and overall performance.

By learning and implementing the elements of boxing outlined in this guidebook, practitioners can experience improved stamina and endurance, enhanced reflexes and coordination, increased self-confidence, the ability to think clearly and remain calm under pressure, and the maintenance of agility and balance. Boxing builds power, instills discipline, and promotes an active and focused mindset.

This time-tested manual serves as a foundation for those seeking mastery in the ring and in life, emphasizing the transferable skills and qualities that boxing cultivates beyond the sport itself.

This book is also available from Echo Point Books as a paperback (ISBN 1648373615).
