Non-renewable fossil fuels will deplete one day. Tomeet the future energy demand, we have to turn torenewable energy including solar energy, windenergy, bioenergy, hydroelectricity, wave energy,tidal power and geothermal energy. Providing theonly renewable alternative for liquid transportationfuel, bioenergy comes directly from renewablebiomass and exists as the products of methane,methanol, ethanol and other biofuels. Methanol frombiomass is an important bioenergy that can be usedas the fuel for a direct alcohol fuel cell or as araw material for biodiesel.This book is based on Q. Wang s PhD research whichhas been well documented by the media. In the book,methanol conversion from sugar beet pulp with pectinmethyl esterase was studied. The goal is to createbioreactors that can be retrofitted onto existingsugar processing plants in such a way that the lowvalue beet pulp can be converted to valuablebioenergy in an economically feasible way. Theresearch results can also be used as a reference formethanol production from other pectin abundantagricultural byproducts such as pulps from fruitprocessing.
