Anotace knihy
This textbook is concerned with the ideologies that shape students' and practitioners' disengagement with social justice issues, focusing on teaching engineers how to contextualize their design problems. The author argues that technologies are not neutral, they discriminate, and they are given power to do so in part through engineering design and in part through existing systemic oppression. Readers will benefit from historical and contemporary case studies and carefully designed exercises that will help to change mental models to see the bias inherent in existing technological design. By considering biased design problems and countervailing solutions from community-based experts, readers will begin to practice anti-racist counter-expertise. In particular, readers will learn the latest tips and techniques by a vanguard of emerging scholars and practitioners to create anti-racist designs.
