Anotace knihy

Antoine Arnauld, known as the "Great Arnauld" (1612-1694), a theologian, Jansenist, grammarian and logician, made an enormous contribution to philosophy in his capacity as who enjoyed privileged relations with Descartes, was one of Leibniz' s correspondents and edited Pascal's work Pensées, and was one of those who did the most to legitimize Cartesianism. Foucault and Chomsky became interested in his Logique ou art de penser, co-written with Pierre Nicole, as well as in his Grammaire générale et raisonnée de Port Royal, which Arnauld co-wrote with Lancelot. Both works were inspired by the controversy opposing the Jansenists, Jesuits and Roman Curia in the seventeenth century. His ideological theory, elaborated in direct opposition to that of Malebranche, constituted a major step in formulating the " problem of ideality "-which would later be fully expanded upon in the workof Kant. This very accessible yet scholarly book is a " mustread " for anyone wishing to revisit a previously misunderstood work.Francesco Paolo Adorno, a professor of Moral Philosophy at the Faculty of Education Sciences at the University of Salerno [Italy], has notably published Le Style du philosophe. Foucault et le dire-vrai, and Pascal.
