Algae are photosynthetic organisms that possess photosynthetic pigments such as chlorophyll. However, they lack true roots, stems and leaves characteristic of vascular plants. Some of them are unicellular whereas others are multicellular. They may also form colonies. Most algae are aquatic. This book will serve as an introduction to Algae to the beginners in the field.
