This is a book about the development of Taiwan s §higher education system. I believe education is the §soul of a country and has the strength to move any §country forward, but only if the flaws in the §educational system are properly addressed. I was §born in Taiwan and have lived there for 27 years. §During this time, I saw a great deal of development §and progress of this island; however, I also saw §some shortcomings, particularly in the system of §higher education. That is the reason we wrote this §book. I hope that through this book, readers will §gain a better understanding of the progress Taiwan s §higher education system has made since its §inception, and where it is looking to go in the §future. Education is a valuable gift for anyone, §and despite my criticisms of the educational system §in Taiwan, I consider myself fortunate to have §benefitted from it. If there is anything I have §learned from writing this book, it is that one §should cherish every opportunity for a quality §education. Cherish it, and use the education as §best one can.
