For those of us who have been associated with the field of ultrasound imaging of the arterial system since its infancy, this contribution by Friihwald and Blackwell provides the source where the results of over 30 years of hard-won advances can be found. The editors and contributors summarize this burgeoning field in their lucidly written, interesting, and accurate treatise. Beginning with chapters on physical principles and technical considerations, including how to adjust equipment for best images, they consider forthwith carotid and vertebral disease in two outstanding chapters with color images of startling defini tion.
