Anotace knihy

Anaemia is a common blood disorder which affects people of all ages, but the people at greater risk are the elderly, young women of child-bearing age and the infants. This is not a disease but could develop as a result of various diseases. There are over 400 types of anaemia but many of them are rare. It was predicted that more than half of the world's population will experience some forms of anaemia in their lifetime. This work seeks to evaluate the antianaemic activity of some plant extracts against phenylhydrazine-induced anaemia in rabbits. Anaemia was induced in rabbits by subcutaneous administration with phenylhydrazine hydrochloride at a dose of 30 mg/kg body weight. Three plant extracts were used for the treatment of anaemia. Phytochemical analysis of plants detected the presence of flavonoids in all the three plant extracts used. The elemental analysis of Mangifera indica stem bark extract showed the presence of Iron,Zinc, Magnesium, Copper,Calcium,Potassium and Sodium and has antianaemic activity. This book is useful to researchers, health experts, students, policy makers and organisations which create awareness for the prevention of anaemia in various human populations.
