By his mother's whim, Francois Timoleon de Choisy dressed as a girl. At 18 he attempted male attire then became a transvestite, never disguising his sex while going out in public in female attire. His fascination with feminine accessories made him something of an expert, offering advice to prominent society women. His extravagance earned him exile from Paris and gambling debts forced him to live on a modest benefice. A serious illness lead to a sudden conversion to religion and he was later ordained a priest.
