Anotace knihy

The Shepherd is an accurate historical novel of deep spiritual significance and adventure, set during the Civil War (1861-65) and concluding during the Johnson County War of 1892. It is an evolving saga that encapsulates the devastating hardships and tragedies of war, the ongoing treachery of a malevolent antagonist, the grievous loss of loved ones, the requisite emergence of a reluctant hero, and the struggle to survive against hopeless odds-all culminating in the unanticipated, redemptive work of God's grace in the lives of the story's main characters over the span of those thirty, desperate years. Caleb Shepherd is separated from his family when he reluctantly volunteers for Cavalry duty. Wounded and captured, he is tortured unbearably as a prisoner of war. He returns home only to find that all he loves is lost. Unattached and directionless, he ventures to Kansas. On the way, God's plan for him begins to emerge as he rescues the wagon train from outlaws on three occasions and his calling becomes evident to all: to assist the weak and vulnerable travelers he encounters on his journeys, whereby the legend of "the Shepherd" grows to mythic proportions.
