The Biography of Sir John Dunne tells the story of a policeman who, from humble Irish origins, became the most senior Police Officer in Victorian Britain. On the way, he found himself Chief Constable of four County/Borough forces before finally becoming the Chief Constable of Cumberland and Westmorland. Possibly the most important and influential police officer during the reign of Queen Victoria he was instrumental in introducing many new laws, some of which are still in place to this day. He was awarded the KB in 1897 and was privileged to make a presentation to Queen Victoria, on behalf of the entire British police force, at the time of her Jubilee. Sir John Dunne can go down in history as ... The longest serving police officer with 64 year's service, The youngest known police officer, at age 14 years, The longest serving chief constable of any force - 45 years, The youngest chief constable and the only officer to be head of two forces simultaneously. It is possible that he was the richest police officer too. His wife was the granddaughter of John Ismay the founder of the White Star Line and inherited a fortune which today would be equivalent to Ł8.7 million.
