Anotace knihy

The book provides state-of-the-art reviews, current research and prospects of the production of chemicals, carbon materials and biofuels from lignin by using physical, chemical, and biological methods. Meanwhile, industrial applications and economic assessment of the production of resins and carbon black are also covered. Lignin is one of the three major constituents (others: cellulose and hemicelluloses) of plant biomass and is produced in large amounts by wood pulping process (e.g., black liquor). Almost all of the lignin produced is used as a low-grade fuel by direct combustion and it is not upgraded to oil, gas or recovered as materials and chemicals due to its highly stable structured biopolymer built from three highly cross-linked phenylpropane (C6-C3) units. The book will be useful for students, researchers, academicians and industrialists in the field of biochemistry and energy.??
