"The only good Indian is a dead Indian" is historically linked to General Philip Sheridan in 1869. This vindictive curse has lingered in the consciousness of the American Indian for more than 100 years. It has been parodied and overused until it has lost its' meaning: the extermination of Native Americans as a "good" thing. There are undoubtedly a number of Native Americans passing as white because they are ashamed of their heritage.
